My Martinique Grandparents

As an immigrant to the USA, I have met and got to know people from so many different backgrounds.

I love to learn about different cultures and find many similarities as well as differences with my own cultural heritage.

Here, I would like to share some history about my family and the island they come from... Martinique!

Martinique's Culture and Languages

Martinique is a blend of French and Caribbean culture with a mixed population. In February, people celebrate Vaval also know as Carnival or Mardi Gras which looks and feels a lot like it's counterpart in Louisiana!

It's official language is French. Most people also speak Martinican Creole, based on French, Carib, African languages with some English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
